Get Ready for AC Installation

Congratulations! You’ve chosen a new air conditioning system for your home. These days, new air conditioners work so well and are so efficient, we’re sure you’ll be delighted with it. And you’ve made an appointment for the installation! That’s great. But do you know what to expect?

It may have been quite a long time since you’ve had an AC system installed. With proper maintenance, your last one might have lasted twelve years or so. Or perhaps you purchased your home with an air conditioner and have never been through this process. We’d like to tell you what to expect at your AC installation appointment and what you can do to help things go as smoothly as possible.

The AC Installation Process

When your installation techs arrive, they’ll go over the plan with you first, so you’ll know exactly what they’ll be doing. Then they’ll prepare the area to make sure there’s room to work and that anything easily damaged will be protected. They’ll remove your old air conditioner and take it out of the house, bring in the new one, and get it in position and connected.

But the job’s not quite done yet. They’ll start it up and make sure it’s running properly. They’ll go over the operating instructions with you so you’ll be comfortable using it. And they’ll clean up the area and leave things just as they were before. This is also a great opportunity to ask any HVAC questions that have been on your mind before your technicians leave.

How Long AC Installation Takes

With a straightforward installation like the one described above, it could take as little as four hours to complete the entire process, but we always recommend making sure you have the day free. If significant modifications of your home are needed, for example to the area where the unit will be or to the electrical wiring to facilitate the connection, it can take longer.

The only time an air conditioner installation is likely to take more than a single day is when something major needs to be done before the actual installation can take place. An example of this would be if your home has never had ductwork and you’re having that installed, or if your ductwork is in poor condition and you’re having much of it replaced.

What You Can Do to Make AC Installation Go Smoothly

Before your installation, make sure to clear the way from your driveway to the locations of both the indoor and outdoor AC units. Make space to work around those units, moving furniture out of the way or trimming hedges if necessary. And when your technicians are about to arrive, shut your pets in another room. We’d hate to let an indoor pet out or step on a tail or paw while working.

Once your air conditioning installation in Wayne, NJ is complete, you’ll be relaxing in comfort all summer for many years to come. Don’t forget to schedule AC maintenance each year to keep your system in tip-top shape!
